Vintage Mewaf drawer with key

Original metal chest of drawers. Brand: MEWAF. Origin: Kortrijk, Belgium. Nice design and very good condition, one key included. Grey corpus and drawers, handgrips in red detail. Top sheet in formica (wood design). Including original tray / devider.  

MEWAF stands for "Metaalwaren Fabriek" (1948 - 2012), sister company of family business Van Marcke (1929 - present).

The story of Mewaf began ten years after managing director Raymond Van Marcke established his wholesale plumbing business. The war temporarily thwarted his plans, but in 1948 Mewaf was a reality. In addition to the government, schools and army bases, private individuals, SMEs and companies soon called on Mewaf to furnish their offices.

In the 1950s, son Carl Van Marcke was the first European manufacturer to design a system that was desk, cabinet and partition in one. By the end of the 1950s, Mewaf firmly established itself as the Belgian market leader.

Trivia: Mewaf (file) cabinets are standard 1.8 meters high, instead of the usual two meters. They also weigh 20 kilograms more than standard cabinets. Mewaf cabinets and desks were a household name for a long time. Very many citizens of Kortrijk, Belgium (and far beyond) spent hours and days behind a metal desk from the company. Robust, pure craftsmanship.
